Personalize Your Home and Make it Feel Like You!

Hi everyone!

So for today’s post, I’m going to be talking about really simple ways to personalize your home. It’s such a good feeling to come home to a place that feels authentically YOURS, and so today I’m going to be showing you how easy it is to add those little details that will make your home feel like it reflects YOU.

When you’re renting an apartment, you’ve got pretty limited options on how you can personalize your space. Your landlord might not allow you to paint the walls or install new cabinetry for example, but that’s no reason to fret, because you’ve got other solutions such as these!Put your photos on display. There’s no better way to customize your home than to put up your own photos. In my apartment, I’ve got my photos in pretty frames in the living room, my office room, and also taped to the fridge.

Some people have bulletin boards in their room where they pin up a variety of photos. You could pin pictures that make you laugh or feel peaceful, photos that inspire you, or even people you look up to and aspire to be.Display anything that reflects you and your life. If you think about it, there are so many items that can reflect your life. For example, any awards and trophies you’ve won, or if you’ve gone to some neat places and brought back some awesome travel souvenirs, why not put them on your bookshelf for everyone to see?Decorate with your own sense of style in mind. That means decorate using your favourite colors, textures, design and patterns! Don’t be afraid to express yourself.

Each person has their own sense of style, whether it comes to fashion or home décor. If you’re not sure exactly what your sense of style is, think about the type of clothes that you typically wear. What colors do you go for? What textures do you like wearing? Are there any patterns that stand out in your closet? All of these things can be incorporated into your home décor style.

If you’re in need of style inspiration, you can always take a look at fashion/ home décor magazines and see what kinds of designs and colors your eyes tend to be more drawn towards.Put wall stickers on your wall. Ikea actually sells some great wall stickers that you can easily peel on and off. They don’t leave any marks on your walls if in the future you decide that the bird patterns aren’t working for you anymore. I’ve got beautiful pastel-colored flowers stuck on my bedroom walls and they really make the room feel more girly and relaxing.

Speaking of wall stickers, I’d say you can find the best selection of them online. Amazon Marketplace has some really unique ones including stickers of inspirational quotes!Incorporate your favorite scents into your home. What better way to personalize your home than to make it smell like your favourite scents? I currently am using Air wicks scented oil around my home. They’re super easy to use (just plug them in!) and last for about a month and a half. Candles or potpourri are also a great option.Removable wallpaper is always an option if you want to spice up the bland walls in your apartment.Adding a rug can make a big difference to the way your home looks. You may not be able to change the color of your floor but you can cover it up with a nice rug of your choice.Pillows for your couch. I think a lot of people underestimate the effect that nice pillows can make for your living room or bedroom. They come in so many different sizes, colors, textures and patterns that there’s bound to be one that screams YOU.

Okay well that’s it for today! Do you have any other tips you’d like to share? Any of these tips you want to try? Happy decorating!
